There are many available options for blogging software and the great thing is that any of them worth considering are free. As I mentioned before, you could chose to go with an option like Blogspot instead of a self-hosted blog but I wouldn’t recommend that for anything but the least serious of bloggers-to-be.

My recommendation would be to use WordPress. WordPress is the most popular blogging platform and for good reasons: it’s free, search engine ready and friendly, and since it is open source there are thousands of free themes and plugins available to do just about anything you’d want. I’ve used it for years and wouldn’t use anything else.
